Nikon L100

Nikon CoolPix L100 Camera

The Nikon CoolPix L100 is an excellent point and shoot camera that is has the super-zoom of the professional more expensive cameras but in a budget friendly easy to use package. This camera has a 10-mega-pixel sensor, a 15x optical zoom lens, easy to navigate controls that make is easyfor the new camera user as well as the seasoned veterans.

The Nikon CoolPix L100 incorporates a very professional and sleek look. This is an intentional upgrade to mimic some of the bigger brothers in the super-zoom category as well as dSLR's (Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera).

With it's matte black body, accents of shiny chrome, glossy black and functional rubberized grip, you will not only take excellent pictures you will look good doing so.

The Nikon L100 is sleek with the front dominated by the camera lens and the rear dominated by a large the 3-inch LCD screen which is perfect for viewing and taking the perfect picture.

Nikon L100 has simplified the control layout with just five buttons and one four-way control pad in the rear, on the top just an on/off button, shutter release, and a zoom ring. On the right side of the L100 beside the 3-inch LCD display is the location of the rear controls which include a button to select the shooting/scene mode.

Another button to access image and video playback, a dedicated menu button, trash button, and an OK button in the center of the four-way control pad. The Nikon Coolpix L100's control pad also functions as controls for flash settings, exposure compensation, macro mode, and the camera's self-timer.

Just four double A batteries make the L100 function and a standard SDHC memory card provides for its memory (not included). The slot for this is located in a slide compartment in the base of the camera. The battery and memory card are locked in securely via a locking door. Output ports are found on the left side and are accessible via the standard pop-out cover.

The Nikon L100, in keeping with the little brother theme, has an easy to release built-in flash. A handy grip that doubles as the Nikon emblem allows for this flash release to happen quite efficiently. The ergonomics of the camera is good and uncommon for cameras in this class, but a definite plus for the L100 and it's user, is the metal tripod mount.

Nikon CoolPix L100 Ease Of Operation

The Nikon L100 offers several different operating modes. Easy Auto, Auto, Sports Continuous, Movie, and 14 scene modes to make it easy for you to pick the right settings for your given situation. This camera is ready for the graduate of the lesser zoom capable cameras of a lower class, like the point and shoot digital or the automatic 35mm, but not as confusing as the manual shutter and focus functions of it's bigger and sometimes more confusing brothers.

Taking pictures with the L100 is made easy as well although it lacks an optical viewfinder. This viewfinder is relieved of it's duty with the 3-inch LCD display. Some added features that make picture taking even more fun is a distortion correction mode, which corrects barrel distortion that plague even some more high-end cameras and, a manual white balance setting and you get professional pictures at a huge savings.
